Anthony (Tony) Chvala chief executive officer Anthony (Tony) Chvala is the chief executive officer leading the SHOP.CA team and reporting to the board. He is an accomplished global executive that is focused on the customer and who has driven revenue growth exceeding multi-billion dollar businesses across all retail categories within Softlines and Hardlines for Fortune 500 corporations (Amazon, Groupon, GE, Sears) over the past 17 years. Deep knowledge of E-commerce business, merchandising strategy, private label, and product innovations. Core-Competency in building P&L’s, instating process, international expansion, product assortment, and identifying/developing new markets. Expert closer in senior level negotiations to secure contracts, corporate alliances, market changing engagements, and joint ventures. Significant expertise developing relationships and businesses across the globe including North & South America, Europe, and Asia.
Tony has amassed a deep global knowledge and expertise in merchandising, brands, and product development driving business and relationships across the globe in North & South America, Europe, and Asia - Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea.
Entrepreneurial forays into the high tech start up environment have enabled Tony to leverage relationships (Apple) to introduce new software technology. Co-founder, Owner, and Board Chairman of Wellala Inc, developer of PrintMagic wireless printing software apps for IOS & Android devices (patented printing software) that has generated sustainable revenue for this start up and allowed the company to re-invest profits for further development while relying on zero outside investments.
Trevor Newell founder and president Trevor leads strategy, business insight analytics and SHOP.CA’s continued improvement in process engineering. From site analytics, social media marketing platform design to product management, Trevor’s extensive expertise in leading large, multi-disciplinary projects ensures a corporate-wide, customer first approach to project management and budget thinking.
Trevor's experience includes global enterprises such as ORACLE, EDS and GE and exponentially growing start-ups/early stage ventures including Janna Systems. Trevor's cross-functional breadth offers SHOP.CA a range of corporate and operational strategy, finance and marketing, global sales, service and investor relations.
Hailing from Wilfrid Laurier University (Honours Bachelor of Business Administration Degree), Trevor has pioneered the launch of the Social Loyalty Network at SHOP.CA and has been instrumental in the company's partnership with MIT, where he has increased enterprise value through groundbreaking data analytics design.
Michael Tait executive vice president Michael leads all corporate development efforts at SHOP.CA. In this role, Michael works daily with existing and potential investors and strategic partners to unlock growth opportunities that enhance capital raising initiatives. These efforts have culminated in SHOP.CA raising over $52 million in less than two years.
Michael’s career began in investment banking with Gordon Capital in 1996. He subsequently worked in almost all facets of the financial industry, including debt and equity financings, divestitures and mergers and acquisitions before movinig into private transactions and initial public offerings at firms such as CIBC, HSBC and UBS. Michael was also a co-founder of Genuity Capital Markets (sold to Canaccord Financial). Most recently, he was Managing Director, Head of Institutional Sales, UBS Securities Canada.
Michael serves as a Director of public and private companies and charities. He has an MBA from the University of Toronto (joint with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) and a BA from Queen’s University.
Gary Black chief technology officer Gary is responsible for the technology delivery, including product design, build and operations for SHOP.CA's Marketplace-as-a-Service. Gary's future-forward orientation has him constantly leveraging a top-to-top relationship with IBM to remove customer friction through an ever-improving user experience.
Prior to joining SHOP.CA, Gary was General Manager of CDC eCommerce, a leading Software as a Service eCommerce platform. Gary joined CDC Software in 2009 as part of its acquisition of privately held Truition Inc. where he ran development. Prior to Truition, Gary was VP Engineering for DoubleClick (now a division of Google). With more than 19 years of eCommerce and online experience, Gary provides the strong technical, product development and management skills required in a nimble eCommerce company. Gary is a pioneer in SaaS application product management and an eCommerce veteran helping to launch some of the first SaaS marketing automation products on the market.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Toronto.
Robert (Rob) Lee chief financial officer Leading the execution of rigorous financial standards, Rob ensures that SHOP.CA's financial reporting, business planning and daily analytics enable the business to achieve its targets. He oversees all of SHOP.CA’s compliance, controllership and treasury activities as well as supporting the Board of Directors. Rob has been with SHOP.CA since its inception and led the establishment of the financial processes and systems to support the business’ rapid growth.
Prior to starting SHOP.CA, Rob was a Director at the Medical Council of Canada where he led the organization's core business and global growth. Rob oversaw the financial and operations side of assessment for Canadian physicians. Rob led and grew the team that was responsible for the automation and global expansion of the Council's examinations, the launch of web-based assessments and the automation of business critical solutions. Under Rob’s leadership, the Council experienced revenue growth of over 500%.
Rob serves on the Finance Committee of the Board of CaRMS and holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Lauier University. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) and holds an MBA from Queens University.
Mark Daprato chief marketing officer A marketing professional for 16 years, Mark leads new customer demand generation, repeat customer and retention management, merchandise marketing, creative, media and promotional partnerships at SHOP.CA. Always an innovator, Mark has had senior level marketing roles at Cara Operations (Swiss Chalet, Kelsey’s), Rogers, Telus and Taxi Advertising.
Mark has extensive experience working in start-up organizations focused on, or closely related to the consumer technology sector. From improving margins in the restaurant business, to running national consumer marketing plans, youth market growth strategies, to launching prepaid phone services, Mark's always leverages his experience to put focused and clear propositions in front of consumers, ultimately driving shareholder value.
A Bachelor of Arts Honours graduate from Queen's University, Mark started his marketing career at Young and Rubicam working on retail, packaged goods and automotive accounts including KFC, Cadbury beverages, Mott's Clamato, the Ford Motor Company of Canada and AT&T Canada. Mark has a drive to focus on small companies that are hungry to grow. He joined Clearnet (Pre-Telus acquisition), an emerging wireless company. Seeing the opportunity to help Rogers position itself as a challenger brand, Mark moved to Rogers Wireless following Telus Mobility's purchase of Clearnet.
Olivia Horbasz director of customer experience Olivia leads the growth and passion of the customer loyalty team at SHOP.CA. In her tenure, she has generated results that exceed industry standards for response time and customer satisfaction. Olivia shares extensive customer insights to ensure customers are continually “Wowed.” Her team has interacted with hundreds of thousands of Canadians to bring them among the best online shopping experiences available.
A graduate of Western University (Bachelor of Arts with Honours Specialization in Media, Information and Technoculture (M.I.T)) and Humber College (Public Relations), Olivia has spent her career supporting marketing and publicity campaigns with companies such as WIND Mobile, Foodland Ontario, Corus Entertainment and Elan Artists in New York City.
